Birmingham City Battalions, 1914-1918
Published in 1919 this book detailed the names, regimental numbers, rank, battalion, company and platoon of men who served with the 14th, 15th and 16th (Service) Battalions of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment during the First World War. Also known respectively as the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Birmingham City Battalions, the men who served in these so-called ‘Pals’ battalions had often worked together in civilian life. The roll lists 3921 names of men who formed the initial contingent for these battalions when they were formed between 1914 and 1915.
Birmingham Employers, 1914-1918
This incomplete roll of over 21,000 names lists men who were mostly employed in Birmingham-based industries and who volunteered to serve King and Country during the First World War. Also included is a separate roll of 276 individuals who contributed financially to the equipment fund that was set up to fund the newly raised – in 1914 – Birmingham city Battalions.
