His Majesty the KING has been graciously pleased to approve of the grant of the Victoria Cross to the undermentioned for their conspicuous bravery whilst serving with the Expeditionary Force:- Corporal Charles Ernest Garforth (Regimental No. 7368, 15th Hussars. At Harmignies, France on 23rd August Corporal Garforth volunteered to cut wire under fire which enabled his squadron to escape. At Dammartin he carried a man out of action. On 3 September, when under maxim fire, he extricated a sergeant whose horse had been shot, and by opening fire for three minutes enabled the sergeant to get away safely.
