Captain, HMS Lucia, seniority date 30/06/1916. Senior Naval Officer at Reval (later Tallinn) 1920. Second Sea-Lord 1935-38, Commander-in-Chief Plymouth and Western Approaches 1938-41, Flag Officer in Charge London 1942-46. Vice-Admiral of the United Kingdom and Lieutenant of the Admiralty (1950 Navy List, Retired Officers). Vice Chairman of the Imperial War Graves Commission 1952.

During the period 20th May - 8th June 1915 in the sea of the Marmara, Dardanelles, Lieutenant-Commander Nasmith in command of HM Submarine E.11, destroyed one large Turkish gunboat, two transports, one ammunition ship, three store ships and four other vessels. When he had safely passed the most difficult part of his homeward journey he returned to torpedo a Turkish transport.
