Ensign Moore was a crew member of a PBM-5S Mariner patrol bomber with Patrol Squadron 892, based at Naval Air Station Iwakuni, Japan. On August 7, 1952, the aircraft was returning to its base with only one engine in bad weather. It struck Luzon Mariveles Mountains, Philippines killing 13 crewmen. Ensign Moore was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
