Corporal King was a member of Headquarters Company, 5th Infantry Regimental Combat Team. On July 2, 1953, he was swimming in the Soyang-gang River in North Korea, when a strong current carried him away and he drowned. Corporal King was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Korean War Service Medal.
