Private First Class Barnes was a member of Company B, 18th Engineer Combat Battalion, U.S. Army. On September 14, 1952, he accidentally hit a trip wire causing an explosion, taken to the 8209th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital where he died. Private First Class Barnes was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.
