MSgt Howard V Campbell Sr. also received a PURPLE HEART posthumously.  According to a fellow POW, they were starving for 3 months of captivity with no heat in the middle of a North Korea winter.  MSgt Campbell escaped to bring water to his fellow prisoners.  He was shot and died, then buried in frozen soil.Later his body was re-patriated and his remains are in Long Island National Cemetary.  Any memories of MSgt Campbell would be appreciated by his family since his son was only 7 when he received notice of death.  After years in Europe during WWII as a Radio Control Operator at an Italian air field, he had little time at home with his son.  During his WWII service he was with "15AF 459 BG HQ 15"
