On Friday morning, January 26, 1894 Mr. Swan Johnson, of heart failure, in the 68th year of his life.

Last Friday morning the sad intelligence was brought to town that Swan Johnson a widely respected citizen, living about a mile west of town, had suddenly died of heart failure. No one witnessed his dying moments, and it is thought that he passed away without a struggle, as his features were calm and peaceful.

The deceased was born near Skane, Sweden, Feb. 28, 1826. He was married in 1854, and moved with his family to Chicago in 1868. They again moved in 1878, and this time located in Platte county [NE] where they remained about a year, prior to taking up their residence west of Genoa.

The deceased has been for 54 years connected with the Lutheran church and always showed a true christian character, and on all sides can be heard words of regret at the loss of this good man. He was a loving husband, a kind father and a benevolent neighber, [sic] and was greatly loved and respected by all who knew him.

He leaves a wife and a large family of eleven children to mourn the loss of the greatest of all earthly friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the M. E. church. The house was filled to its greatest capacity, which testified to the high esteem in which the people held the deceased. Rev. McReynolds spoke words of comfort to the bereaved family and friends, and paid a glowing tribute to the memory of their late father and companion. After the services, the remains were conveyed to the Genoa cemetery accompanied by a large number of his late friends and neighbors, and all that was mortal of Mr. Johnson was laid away to rest, there to await the resurection [sic] morn.

The bereaved family have the sympathy of the whole community in the loss of one who was near and dear to them.
