Darrel was with the U.S. Army Air Force, 12th Air Force, 57th Bombardment Wing, 321st Bombardment Group, 447th Bombardment Squadron, which used B-25 Mitchell Medium Bomber Aircraft, stationed in the MTO during WW2. Cpl. Lee was KILLED on 19 February 1944 in a plane crash, along with 5 other crew members, while on a shuttle service between Vincenzo and Gaudo, Italy. The cause of the crash is not known.
