Description
HANDIBOE-LEWIS-ROOTS, some info & links re: some HANDIBOE's (HANDEBO'S & few other spellings of that "surname") & some photo's, some sources. The original HANDIBOE'S, came into the US from IRELAND, where they were born. The LEWIS & LARMAN'S, I believe were ENGLISH or ENGLISH/GERMAN. The few LEWIS, I have considering the whole US, are mostly around the District of Columbia, Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, in some cases going back to the 1600's. I have a total of over 160 surname's, in various places-found.
After the civil war many CONFEDERATE'S and other CIVIL-WAR soldiers moved to Washington DC, in order to have empolyment or survive. That site mostly thinking of one of my GreatGreatGrandfth's John H. (HENRY) LEWIS, who had to move himself and his family to Washington DC, after the civil war as they would NOT let those who fought for the CONFEDERACY, work and earn a living during the OCCUPATION, in PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA.
