SG James M Tufts served in the 301st Fighter Wing, the 8th Air Force and was stationed at Ie Shima Airfield, Ryukyu Island, Okinawa, Japan from 25 June 1945 to 18 Feb 1946. The 301st Fighter Wing was made up of Republic P-47N Thunderbolt Fighters that flew support for the B-29 Superfortress Bombers. They were part of the Air offensive against Japan. For his service, Dad earned the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
