lfred P. Lowery was a Confederate soldier, 17th Texas Cavalry, Company C. The 17th was recruited by Col. George Moore at Tyler, from Smith and surrounding counties (TX), in early 1862, and most were captured at the Battle of Arkansas Post in January, 1863. Rank and file soldiers were sent to Camp Douglas outside Chicago, IL. He was born in Georgia about 1839, the son of Sarah A. Duckett and William James Lowrey.
