ylvester "Slivers" Dietzler was a good all-around athlete playing football in high school and was the Medford baseball team pitcher. Serving in Company D, Second Battalion, 5th Marine Division, he was involved with the initial landing at Iwo Jima, and lost his life there on 11 Mar 1945. Temporary interment was in the Fifth Marine Division cemetery on Iwo Jima, and he was returned to the States in 1948 for final interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
