	John was related by marriage. He was a sweet, wonderful man. Quick with a joke, kind to a fault. He always cared enough to visit with me, and I was just a kid. His wife gave birth to a baby girl shortly before his death. I won't forget him, ever. Thank you John, for the memories, and for your service.

He was an outstanding officer who consecrated his life in the service of our great country

	I served with CPT Wilson at Ft. Bliss, TX from 1967-1969. He volunteered for Vietnam to evaluate the newly developed 20 mm Vulcan Air Defense weapon system for use in protecting truck convoys from Viet Cong ambushes. It was a very effective weapon in that role. The Vulcan was a 20 mm gatling cannon mounted on a M113 Armored Personnel Carrier. He was killed at Long Binh post during a Viet Cong rocket attack. I was not there, but I understand that he willingly stayed outside an over-crowded bunker to allow civilians protection from the incoming rockets. He was killed by shrapnel, and was posthumously awarded the Silver Star medal for his valor and a third Purple Heart medal for his fatal wound. He left behind a widow, and young son, and a baby daughter who was born while he was in Vietnam. I visited the Vietnam Memorial and ran into a large contingent of M-42 "Duster" veterans, who pay homage every year to their fallen comrades who were killed in action. You can't miss seeing them in their bright red blazers. CPT Wilson was an outstanding officer and a perfect gentleman to all he came in contact with. He previously served in Vietnam and received two Purple Heart medals for wounds sustained while serving with the M-42 Dusters. He was a man who I will never forget, and I often think about his young son and infant daughter, who are now adults.
