irth: unknown Death: Jul. 17, 1864 Andersonville (Sumter County) Sumter County Georgia, USA William Broderick was age 19 and a hatter by trade when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy on October 14, 1861, in Boston, Massachusetts, for a term of three years, as a Landsman, to the credit of Boston. He served on the Receiving Ship OHIO, the USS SACRAMENTO, the USS ALABAMA (not to be confused with the famous CSS ALABAMA), and the USS MONTGOMERY. He was taken prisoner on Jan. 7, 1864, and died of diarrhea as a Prisoner of War at Camp Sumter, Andersonville, Georgia. Sources: MASS. SOLDIERS... 7: 635; Goss, THE SOLDIER'S STORY..., p. 354.
