Captain Stanley Alton Clark (#O-417600) was born 10 October 1917 to Samuel A and Lela L (nee Prokop) Clark in San Antonio, Texas. He has 1 brother. He enlisted 25 November 1940 in San Antonio, Texas.

He eventually ended up as part of the 349th Bomber Squadron, 100th Bomber Group, Heavy who were based at Thorpe Abbots Field, England. On 7 November 1944, he was the command pilot (meaning lead aircraft) on B-17G #42-97561, nicknamed “Bachelor’s Heaven” which was a practice mission. This was Lieutenant J.T. Dyatt’s crew. A fire developed in the cockpit. The aircraft left formation in a descending turn. Six of the nine crew successfully bailed out. Clark, J.T. Dyatt (pilot) and Tech Sergeant Donald Gustafson (flight engineer) were killed as well as three soldiers billeted in a house that the aircraft crashed into.

Clark is buried at Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial in Coton, South Cambridgeshire District, Cambridgeshire, England. He is also commemorated at San Fernando Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas.
