DEATH TOLL HEAVY IN 27TH DIVISION
Day's Casualty List Shows 63 Brooklyn Soldiers Among War's Victims

Thirty Killed in Action; Fifteen Reported Wounded and Fourteen Missing

The day's casualty lists again show many fatalities among member of the
106th Infantry and other regiments comprising the Twenty-seventh Division,
largely made up of Brooklyn soldiers. The total number of local men listed
is eighty-two, of which fifty-three reported killed in action, fifteen wounded
and fourteen missing in action.
CORPORAL EDWARD A. CUMMINGS

Corporal Edward A. CUMMINGS, a son of the late Col. Michael CUMMINGS,
Civil War veteran, and at one time department commander of the G. A. R.,
State of New York, is reported as killed in action. Late in September he
was reported to be recovering from wounds in a French hospital. He wrote
from the hospital to his sister, Miss Sarah C. CUMMINGS, of 2 Strong place,
that he was doing finely and added: "I'll be home for Christmas dinner and
will go New Year's calling."

Corporal Cummings joined the Fourteenth Regiment two years ago and
served with it on the Mexican border. He went to France with Company E,
106th Infantry.

Corp. Edward A. Cunimings, of 2 Strong pi., a member of ,Co. E, 106th Inf., has been killed in action. He was with the 14th Regt. for nearly three years and served on the Mexican border with that command. After going into Federal service he was at sheepshead Bay and Camp Wads- worth, where he was transferred to the 10 6th. He left for France on Mav 10. The last letter which he sent t(> his mother was received in September. Corp. Cunimings was 21 years old last July. He was born in Brooklyn, and educated at the St. Peter's Parochial School. He is survived by his wife, Irene, a daughter, Madeline, six months old; his sisters. Lillian \'. Cummings and Mrs. Stanton, his brothers. Paul, John and James, who is with the 307th Inf. He was a son of the late Col. Michael J. Cummings of the 48th Regt., N. G., N. V.
