Rosanna Slaught Chamberlin

R

osanna (Slaught) Chamberlin was the third wife of Maj. Arthur Chamberlin (1755-1824), of Amwell Twp., Washington Co., PA. According to the 1850 census for Amwell Twp., Rosanna was living at that time in the household of her youngest son, Cephas Chamberlain. By the 1860 census--the year following Rosanna's death--Cephas was already living in West Pike Run Twp., Washington Co., which is where St. Thomas Episcopal Church and cemetery were located (see Crumrine's 1882 History of Washington County, Pennsylvania, p. 991, for documentation of Rosanna's burial, DOD, and age at burial). The church itself has long since disappeared, and the cemetery now goes by the name of Old West Episcopal. Rosanna's maiden name is often misspelled in documents and news reports as "Slack."
