he Widow's Application for Pension is four pages long, and includes the cover sheet indicating record No. 39081, completed application form, and testimonial affidavit written by Alcide Bernard and Ernest Bernard (Ernest served as 2nd Corporal in 26th Infantry Regiment, A Company with Benjamin Bailey). The application states that Benjamin died of Pulmonary Consumption on July 15, 1875, and attests that the Widow Clara Andrus was destitute with no property or means of income or support. The application is witnessed by Arthur Greig and F.S. Mudd, who had personally known the widow for fifty and thirty years respectively. The widow was granted a widow's pension of $4.50 monthly as of September 20, 1902. The application also states that Benjamin Bailey enlisted April 8, 1862 in Company A 26th regiment Louisiana Infantry C.S.A in Vermilionvile, LA. That he served through to the surrender and was present in Alexandria, VA as a 3rd Corporal of Company A.
