Another Pioneer Gone

On Friday, April 17th, Adam Manwarring, of the township of Avon, departed this life, at the advanced age of 92 years.

Deceased was the father of 15 children, 12 of whom are now living, also 36 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Mr. Manwarring was born in the State of New Jersey, in the year 1782 [sic], during the Revolutionary war, and remembers seeing Gen. Washington, when a boy at Burlington, N.J., some years after. He has voted at every Presidential election from Thos. Jefferson down to the present time. He emigrated from the State of New Jersey in the year 1836, and settled in the township of Avon, Oakland county, Michigan, where he has resided until his death. He was a man much respected by all who knew him, and during his long residence in Avon, was held in high estimation as a man of the strictest integrity and of unimpeachable character. He was the oldest resident of the township of Avon, and was thought to have been the oldest pioneer of Oakland county. He died of extreme age, after a long and busy life.

Mr. Manwarring was a kind parent and an indulgent father and he left a circle of relatives and friends not to mourn his departure but to say, "good-bye father, you have more than lived the days allotted to man. We can let you go in spirit to that better land after long years of care and toil. May you rest in peace."
