azar Caplan was born about 1834 in the Ottoman Empire, or as we know it now --Turkey. Genealogy is probably the biggest(and sometimes) the most exciting mystery one can take on. Who was Lazar Caplan's father? We don't know yet. Lazar came to the United States and then traveled up to Alaska and set up shop. He didn't want to hunt for gold, that just wasn't his way, he oped a small store with the necessities that anyone might need on a cold, lonely mining site. He also helped to make Sitka, Alaska a city by being one of the signers of the city charter. Once the store was set up Lazar traveled down to Portland, Oregon in 1872 and married Mary Dux, she was from Austria. She's another person we'll be searching for here real soon.
