ames Dowling joined Smallwood's Brigade in 1776 and fought for three more years in the 2nd Maryland Regiment. He was discharged in 1780 whereupon he joined and then fought in the Virginia Line during the Southern Campaign. He was wounded during the Siege of Ninety-Six.
