Arlo Guthrie

A

rlo Guthrie is an American folk singer who often performs songs that protest or make a statement about current events. His most famous song is “Alice's Restaurant Massacree.” It is an 18-minute song protesting the Vietnam War draft, and in many ways epitomizes the feelings of the 1960s counterculture. Guthrie performed at Woodstock in 1969 where his expressive songs fit in well with the other performers. Today he runs a record company and the Guthrie Center, an interfaith meeting place for people of all religions. Guthrie continues to write and perform his music and stays true to using his songs to express his views on the current times.
