Baron was born on June 18, 1920 in Lorhair, Kentucky in the county of Perry.

He was son to Baron Steuben Sr. and Cora (Oaks) Walden. Sometime between his birth and when he was 10 years old, his parents divorced or his father died because, Cora remarried Lawrence Dozier. She was a year older than Lawrence and with a stepson in tow, they moved to the city of Corbin and remained in Kentucky.

He enlisted on Feb. 19, 1942 after two years of college.

In 1943 while in the service, Baron married a gal named Billie V. Haverly in Sacramento, CA.

While in the Europe Theater, a mission that took Baron from England where he was stationed, he was flying over the English Channel and was headed to Champaign les Hesdin and failed to return. His plane while he was pilot, was hit by flak over the target as they were heading back to base, having crossed the French coast, the crew was ordered to bale out. He was seen to bale out and seen adjusting his dingy but was killed in action. He was with soldiers, Schoettley and Walgren. No mention if his fellow mates were rescued.

His remains are buried in Cambridge American Cemetery in Cambridgeshire, England.

He earned a Purple Heart, Air metal with oak leaves

and he is buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC.
