E Company, 47th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division

E Company, 47th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division

A picture of E Company, 47th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division.  Gene is fifth soldier from the left in front row; he is sitting behind Lt. Jay Garner.  The photo was probably taken on 8 or 9 May at the end of the war.  Note the rifles and the guy on the right with the amno belts that look like suspenders.    Captain Frank Petty, the Company Commander,  is seated in the very front center.  To the left is Lt. Garner, then my father behind Garner (in front row of enlisted men), then further to the left in front are two more officers, probably Lt. Kinney, Lt. Tanner or Lt. Jennings (not sure who).

Gene's eldest son secured the photograph and some 85 more from Jack and Eve Datisman of Port Angeles, WA.  Eve is the daughter of Lt. Jay Garner, his father's  platoon leader of the 3rd Platoon.
