Since my grandpa's passing in 2000, I have found out more information about my grandpa's service and I am even more enamoured by him now.

Facts:

He became a Captain for the Airforce and flew the Aurora Dora.

He flew on D-Day over Normandy and was almost shot down three times.

He was exposed to Polio while in service and developed it, lost use of both of his arms. He was told that he would never be able to use them, he would never work, fly let alone walk again.

While receiving treatment for Polio, he became The American Red Cross National Chess Champ-twice, created and developed two braces that would help others who had Polio that affected the upper body, and had them patented. He then had two more children, owned several businesses taught all of his sons how to fly airplanes, flew across country, had 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild at the time of his passing.

He never once complained about pain, he never complained about not being able to do something with his hands/arms he figured out a way around it and made it happen. He taught all of us that there should be nothing-no physical or mental impairment that stands in your way, to perservere to get what you want!
