DAVID KNAPP WORKMAN

David Knapp Workman was born May 17, 1924, in Ashland, Ohio, to Thomas David and Lelia Knapp Workman. He was reared in the Rankin, Texas, area.
He enlisted in the Army Air Force in December 1942, at Lubbock, Texas, while attending Texas Tech University. He graduated as a second lieutenant April 29, 1944, in Bombardier Class 44-6. He was a POW at Stalag Luft III, Sagan, XIIID, Nurnberg, VIIA, Moosburg and was liberated by General Patton. He was discharged with the rank of first lieutenant in November 1945. He held the Air Medal and the POW Medal.
He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1948, with BBA degree and, following a 37 year career with Production Credit Association, he retired in 1987. He had been a Scoutmaster for Troop 28, and he had served as both member and president of the Stanton ISD School Board. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, and he had served as a member of the Veterans' Land Board of the State of Texas. He had also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Region 18 Education Service Center. He had been a member of the Lions Club and Martin County Chamber of Commerce. David loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Mr. Workman is survived by his wife, Ann of Stanton; his son, David Michael Workman and his wife, Sherry of Katy, Texas; his daughter, Cathy Ann Scheffell and her husband, Danny of Rising Star, Texas; two brothers, Tommy Workman of Rankin, Texas and Jimmy Workman of Denver, Colorado; one sister, Mary Ann Workman of Rankin, Texas; two grandchildren, Graig Koerting Workman and Stacy Erin Workman, both of Katy, Texas; and nieces and newphews.
Mr. Workman died Sunday, March 29, 1998, in Midland Memorial Hospital. Graveside services are scheduled for Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland, Texas, under the direction of Gilbreath Funeral Home of Stanton. The Rev. Fred Campbell of San Angelo and Brothr David Harp of First Baptist Church of Stanton will officiate.
