VERL FRANCIS DWYER - Reddick Community High School - Class of 1938

23 Jan 1942: enlists as a Private in the Army Air Corps. Selected for the Aviation Cadet Program and completes Pre-Flight training.

17 June 1943: Dwyer, Verl F. was assigned to the 72nd Army Air Force (AAF) Flight Training Detachment (FTD) at Bush Field near Augusta, Georgia for Primary flight training in a Vultee BT-15 Valiant serial #41-10324 This ten-week Primary flight training course consisted of 70 hours of flight training and 150 hours of ground training. NOTE: Georgia Aero Tech was renamed Bush Field in honor of Don C. Bush, a civilian flight instructor, who lost his life in an aircraft crash.

After Basic and Advanced he is commissioned a 2nd Lt in the USAAF, and transitions to flying North American B-25 Mitchell bombers; …..with over 39 combat missions.
