George H. Davis OCEAN CITY - MARYLAND

Funeral services for retired Air Force Maj. George Harrison Davis, 56, of Ocean City, will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Burbage Funeral Home, Berlin, Maryland. Maj. Davis died Wednesday at Walter Reed Medical Center, Washington D.C., after a long illness. The Rev. David King will officiate. Interment will be in the Buckingham Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Berlin.

Maj. Davis served in the U.S. Air Force for 22 years, flying fighter planes during World War II in the European Theater of Operations. He was taken a prisoner of war (POW) in Germany just a month, before the war ended. He also served eight months in the Pacific area, during the Korean conflict.

Maj. Davis was in the first two-year class to graduate from the former Salisbury State Teachers College. He attended the University of Maryland for a year. He then enlisted (13024192) in the Army Air Corps as an Aviation Cadet on 13 March 1941 at Baltimore, Maryland. After graduating from Primary, Basic, and Advanced pilot flight training schools, he was awarded "silver wings" and commissioned (O-428479) as a Second Lieutenant in the USAAF at Maxwell Field. He married Miss Thelma Louise Temple of Montgomery, Alabama on 15 Aug 1942.

Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Charles Lee and Katherine Harrison Davis, who lived a number of years in the Berlin area. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Thelma Temple Davis; a daughter, Mrs. Patricia D. Rocker, Ft. Wayne, Indiana; three sons, Navy Lt. Cmdr. G. H. Davis Jr., and Michael Thomes and Robert Temple Davis, Ocean City; several grandchildren and two brothers, Robert Lee Davis, Berlin, and Charles Lee Davis Jr., Denton.

The family suggest that, as a tribute to the memory of the deceased, contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of the Buckingham Presbyterian Church.
