Pvt. Paul E. Auger

Pvt. Paul Emil Auger was born on May 21, 1910 in Thompson, Connecticut, the son of Napoleon Auger who worked as a blacksmith. Auger enlisted October 16, 1940. By 1944, he was assigned to the 351st Infantry Regiment, 88th Infantry Division, and in May of 1944, the regiment found themselves in central Italy, pushing north. By May 1944, the unit, commanded by Maj. Gen. John E. Sloan, were pushing through Spigno, Mount Civita, Itri, Fondi and Roccagorga. It was during one of these battles Pvt. Paul Auger was killed by artillery shell. He died on May 12, 1944 and is buried in the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery, Nettuno, Italy; Plot H, Row 7, Grave 61.
