Aircraft Action Report for Jun 13th 1944. This was probably the first action Gilbert Mays saw with VT-1 (he saw action previously with VT-5). They were attacking a blockhouse and mobile artillery emplacement near the causeway between Cabras Island and the town of Piti. Flying with Gilbert Mays was his gunner Curtis Sharp and radioman Howard Bergstrom.

VT-1's first taste of combat was just the day before (June 12th), and unfortunately they lost senior pilot Lt Merrell and his two crewmen from the intense Japanese AA fire over Guam. They almost lost another aircraft this mission when Ens Wilmann's plane was hit and badly damaged while following Ens Mays in over the same target.
