Thomas Hutchinson was born September 9, 1711 in Boston, Massachusetts. He was the last royal Governor of colonial Massachusetts and a prominent Loyalist. In 1765, his Boston mansion was ransacked and destroyed as a result of colonial frustration over the Stamp Act. He was serving as Governor during the Boston Massacre and came down on the side of British law. He left the colonies in June 1774 as pressure mounted. He died in England in 1780.
