Born in Patroon, Texas in the year 1895 to Bonner Moreland and Sarah Amanda King-Doggett he grew up in a rural area with four sisters and three brothers.

Working as a 21-year-old auto mechanic in a local business in Center, Edgar registered for the World War I draft as many others did on June 5, 1917. Six months later he traveled to Ellington Field in Houston and joined the newly formed Air Service of the US Army. Upon completion of basic training Private Doggett was sent to St. Paul, Minnesota in May 1918 and attended the Army Aviation Mechanic Training School. The four-month school ended on September 12, 1918 and he was moved to Call Field that was located a little over four miles southwest of Wichita Falls, Texas. It was one of 32 Air Service Training Camps established to train prospective pilots. Sergeant Doggett’s job with Squadron C of the 198 Aero Squadron along with the other assigned mechanics was to see that the planes were in good flying order. The Armistice with Germany was signed two months after his arrival at Call Field and he was honorably discharged January 22, 1919 receiving the World War I Victory Medal and the honorable discharge lapel pin.

Mr. Doggett returned to Shelby County and on October 28, 1920 he married Miss Eddie Louise Fox and they had one son, Edgar, Jr. Working as an auto mechanic they lived on Tenaha Street in Center. On June 19, 1938 Edgar passed as the result of an accidental drowning. He was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Center, Texas with full military honors provided by the Norman Crocker American Legion Post, Center of which he was a member. Also participating were the Timpson American Legion Post and the Timpson National Guard Unit. His wife Eddie and son Edgar, Jr. also rest in the Fairview Cemetery.
