SERVICE: Nathan Skipper served in the Revolutionary War under Colonel Armstrong. Nathan enlisted in 1777, where he served for North Carolina in the following battles: Brandywine, Germantown, and Monmouth. Nathan states this in his pension: “No real estate, one colt, unfit for service, worth about 30 dollars. My occupation is that of a cooper. My ability to pursue my occupation is very bad, from infirmities of body and being void of the means of procuring tools. A schedule of the property possessed by the [office?] and on the 18th of March 1818 I ???? and had in possessions on that day one mare and one colt and one sow and pigs. I also state that I was in these battles: the battle of Brandywine, the battle of Germantown, and the battle of Monmouth. I have nine children but they have gone forth to provide for themselves. I live about from house to house seeking support by my labor." Nathan Skipper departed this life sometime after 1826, presumably in Maury County, Tennessee (where his pension application was from), and some of his children had "gone forth" and provided for themselves.
