Peter Fennel

On Thursday at the family residence in Fenelton, Clearfield township, occurred the death of Peter Fennel, for whom the village was named. Mr. Fennel, who was about 78 years of age, located in Fenelton in 1856, and later conducted a general store which was conducted for many years. A post office was established in the store and later a Methodist church was located in that vicinity. Mr. Fennel was well known in Butler as well as in the vicinity of his home and was held in the highest esteem. He was a Republican in politics and for years the only Republican votes in Fenelton were cast by Mr. Fennel and his sons who followed the same political faith. The date for the funeral has not yet been announced.

FENNEL - At his home in Fenelton, Sept. 5, 1907, Peter Fennel, aged 78 years.

Mr. Fennell was one of our oldest and best citizens, and a veteran of the Civil War. The town of Fenelton was named after him.

He is survived by his wife, now 81 years of age, five sons, John, Winfield, S.P. Blaine, Philip Sheridan and Grant Fennell, and three daughters, Mrs. Harvey Huff of Franklin, Mrs. Fullerton and Miss Mary.

Peter Fennel died at his home in Fenelton, Clearfield twp., Butler Co., Thursday, September 5th, 1907, aged 78. He was a Government Storekeeper at Freeport about twenty-five years ago. He was a very ardent Methodist and had many a spirited discussion with the late James Rattigan on religious and political questions. There was a time when he was the only Republican in the township in which he lived and he was very proud of the fact.
