James H. Burch

The Civil War took place from 1861 to 1865, fought between the Union and the Confederate States of America. James H. Burch was a Confederate soldier. His Battle Unit name was 6th Regiment, Virginia Cavalry. He was in Company K and ranked in and out as Private. Lastley his Firm Number was M382 Roll 8. The age of James Burch of when he enlisted is unknown.

In the 1860 census, there was no records provided. The 1860 census, asks for the the name, birth, and or death of the soldier. It also asks for any place where he could have lived and for the nationality and race. No information was provided where James Burch was living in the 1860s, but most likely he was living in the area around Loudoun County, Virginia. There was no information provided about his family or their ages.

James Burch first battle was most likely fought on August 5, 1861 at Loudoun County Opposite Points of Rocks, Maryland. His last battle was probably fought between the middle of February through early March of 1862. In October he fought in two battles at Annandale, Virginia. He fought in two battles in his birth town of Fairfax County, Virginia. The first one was on December 4, 1861 and the second was on January 15, 1862.

Service Records informs that James Burch appears on the Company Muster Roll for July and August in 1861. He enlisted on July 16, 1861 in Leesburg, Virginia by Captain Mead. He enlisted for a period of twelve months. He was paid by Major L.B. Ball to the time of July 1, 1861, and he was present. He appears on the Company Muster Roll for January and February in 1862. He was paid by Captain Larter to the time of December 31, 1862. He was present, but appeared sick and was coughing. On a register form for a soldier of the Confederate States who died of diseases, states that he was born in Fairfax County, Virginia and deceased on March 25, 1862. He died in Loudoun County, Virginia. The records do not provide the information of what cause, the amount of money left, or in whose charge. It states that the registration was received on January 7, 1863 and the number of certificate was 56. On the Company Muster Roll for February 28 through June 30 1862, that is died on March 25, 1862.

James Burch was a brave soldier that served in the army of the Confederate States. He fought in many battles, but sadly only served as a soldier for less than a year. Because of the harsh conditions at the time, Burch’s death was caused by diseases.
