My Soldier:

Iden Samuel

Soldier Samuel Iden was a part of the Virginia 6Th Calvary. He was a Caucasian man. He served in the Virginia 6th Calvary for about 7 years. He was first placed in Paris, Virginia when they sent him out. He was sent out to Paris, Virginia on September 25, 1862. He served in the civil war because he enlisted and was called to duty. We don’t know his year of age because the records don’t show. We know the very minimum about this man.

When I looked for Samuel iden in the 1860 census there wasn’t much on him and his family. The only family we know of is his mother. Her first name is unknown But we know her last name was Iden. Her age is also an unknown factor in the 1860 census. She lived in Chesterfield Va. Samuel Iden’s age is unknown in all records. His date of birth is a mystery is still unknown to the world.

Samuel Iden initially enrolled for active service on August 19th,1861. He enrolled for active service in Chester Springs by Capt. Fluoronoy. He ustered into service September 4th, 1861 by Lt. C.U. Field. This event occurred in Ashland Va. This is what started him is adventurous journey into the military. His service records state the register of deceased officers and soldiers from Virginia which were filed for settlement in the office of the Confederate States Auditor for the war department was presented by John R. Iden His settlement number 8632 of all the settlement cases. The confederate army was said to we him $134.22.

Iden was prone to disease and malnourishment in war. As well known there were very many risks being in war. Not only being at rick for death by a bullet but many more infections were without question roaming around the entire war period. The only family of his known was his mother. There is no record of her name but her whereabouts during the time of war but at his time of death she was in Fauquier County Virginia. Following his death on December 16th, 1862 his mother received a death notice form the military where he son worked.

We know his date of death and the location of his death but not the sate of his birth or the place of his birth. We also have a information of his cause of death. He died in Orange County Virginia. His cause of death was of a disease called typhoid. Typhoid is a disease in which an infectious bacterial fever with an eruption of red spots on the chest and abdomen and severe intestinal irritation.

Though we do not know exactly what battles he was a soldier in we can infer. He a part of the American Civil War. A brutal war between the two sides, the confederates and the union. He fought on the side of the confederate. The Civil War of 1861-1865 determined what kind of nation it would be. The war fixed a lot of fundamentals that were wrong in the nation and that would have torn it apart for the better of the country.

With the very limited supply of legible records there isn’t much to go on. We know the basics of this very brave soldier. As we gave his name, his place of death and his date of death. There isn’t even a record for his date of birth or place of birth. Though we have very little information we at least can figure out what wars he was involved in by finding the time he was sent out to war and where. Knowing he was a part of the American Civil war is a big deal and knowing the side he fought. This information is important for the ones wondering what their ancestors like and where they come from. Samuel Iden was a brave soldier who gave his life in war fighting for what he believed in and for his country.
