Joshua Washington Law was born Aug. 1, 1795 in Virginia. He married Nancy Rector Dyer (daughter of Abraham and Ruth Dyer) on Aug. 17, 1815 in Greene County, TN. The couple had 6 known children.

Joshua and his family were in Greene County, TN, Blount County, TN, Marion County, TN and Laurel County, KY before migrating into Ogle(1840 Census), DeKalb and Whiteside County, Illinois. It was on Dec. 19, 1843 that Joshua died in Somonauk, DeKalb County, Illinois. No burial place has been located to date for Joshua.

His wife, Nancy continued living in Whiteside, Illinois until about 1877 when she left with her son Washington M. for Rippey, Greene County, Iowa. She died in July of 1879 at 86 years of age in Rippey, Iowa and is buried in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Rippey.
