Medical Directory] having applied to me for a certificate whereon to base an application for an extension of furlough. I do hereby certify that I have carefully examined the said Captain and find in consequence of a gunshot and received before Richmond, the ball entering at the inside of the left leg and extracted in front of tibia; he is now unfit for duty. I further certify in my opinion he will not be fit for duty for thirty days from this date."

P.R.C. having applied for a certificate on which to ground an application for an extension of leave of absence, I do hereby certify that I have carefully examined this officer and find that he is suffering from a gunshot wound in the abdomen received by him in the late Battle of Bull Run, VA., Aug 30, 1862 and in consequence thereof, he is, in my opinion unfit for duty. I further declare my belief that he will not be able to resume his duties in a less period than fifteen days."
