Enrolled in Utterback's Light Artillery on May 8th, 1862. The regiment was engaged in Virginia, where it played a role in the conflict at Guinea Station on May 10th 1863([i](Fold3 Search. Fold3. Web. 07 June 2016.)), This conflict allowed for the Union to secure northern virginian supply routes(ii).Through all the fighting it is presummed that Geroge Barnett suffered a mortal wound and died in combat([iii](Fold3 Search. Fold3. N.p., n.d. Web. 07 June 2016.)). In His company he had the pleasure of serving with his younger brother John E Barnett where he later died in a undetermined conflict(iv). George N. Barnett was enlisted a Private on May 10th, He was then Promoted to full Coporal on Febuary 15 1863(v). HIs burial site is uncertain along with the exact other conflicts he and his company was involved in.

His company later in the war was assigned to the 13th North Carolina Artillery Battalion, where they took action in the battle at Betonville, Later surrendering at Appomatox.(vi)
