George Blunt (born LaFayette George Blount) was born in October of 1841, to Abraham Blount and Chaney Blount (nee' Brothers) who were free people of color in Elizabeth City, Pasquotank, North Carolina. His father was a farmer who owned at least several slaves in his life time (one being his sister named Fanny Lindsey AKA Fanny Blount/Blunt, who he sent to Philadelphia after his death in 1842). In his fathers will he also willed that all of his slaves be sent to a free state (one of who being a woman named Pleasant who lived with Fanny in Philadelphia). George's fathers way of contributing to ending slavery was by purchasing slaves, employing them, teaching them skills, and then setting them free.

This is evident in George's fathers will when he says "No one can claim them" which is why he sent them to a free state to "secure their freedom" as he states. After George's fathers death he was made ward of the state till he reached maturity, as mothers had no claim to their children (however he was then sent to become an apprentice). After he reached maturity he joined his mother in Norfolk County, Virginia, who had recently married a man by the name of Jordan Thompson. Not long after arriving there his mother passed away and then Jordan not long after. On Febuary 1st , 1864 George joined the 2nd Regiment, U.S. Colored Calvary to fight for the freedoms of those less fortunate to be born free, as he was.

George quickly moved up the ranks to become a Commissionary Sargent. During the war he was involved in a total of six battles . After the war Lafayette married a woman by the name of Fanny Riddick, daughter of Francis and Emmaline Bailey, all of whom were slaves freed by emancipation. LaFayette went on to become a planter and landowner and raised many children (many of whom also died at birth or very young ) till his death in Dec of 1907.
