The Battle of Olustee was the biggest battle in Florida fought in the Civil War on 20 February 1864. Finnegan received reinforcements in the afternoon of the battle and was able to drive back the Union into retreat. Finnegan is faulted by some for not continuing to pursue the enemy. Instead, he salvaged the arms and ammunition from the battlefield. It was still a bright victory for the Confederacy.
