Stories about Calvin Chesnut

War

Calvin Chesnut, age 20, was enlisted as Private on April 2nd, 1862 in Captain McLean’s Company, Company H (Union Rebels), 6th Regiment Florida Infantry by J. J. Finley at Mount Vernon Arsenal, Florida, for a period of 3 years or the war (Company Muster Roll for April 2nd to April 21st, 1862).

Compiled Service Records are illegible; he supposedly was absent on every muster roll, and dropped as AWOL after October 31st, 1863.

According to his Confederate Pension File (Florida A01377), he received a medical furlough by a Medical Board in late 1863, and returned to his home in Florida.  He stated that he was unable to return until after the war was over.
