Biographical Sketch

    Private David Cannon was born ca. 1831 in North Carolina.  In 1860 he was living near Blue Creek, Liberty County, Florida with wife Mary and four children.  He owned real estate valued at $400, and a personal worth of $196.

    David enlisted in Davidson’s Company on May 4th, 1862 at Rico’s Bluff, Liberty County, Florida.  He was listed at sick at Liberty County prior to June 30th of 1862, but rejoined the company after that date and was with it until October 28th, 1862 when he again took ill and was admitted to the hospital at Knoxville, Tennessee.  He returned to the company prior to November 12th, and was with it until he was mortally wounded at the Battle of Chickamauga, Georgia about the 19th of September.

    He was hospitalized at La Grange, Georgia where he died on September 22nd, 1863.  Private Cannon is identified on the Chickamauga Roll of Honor for “conspicuous gallantry and good conduct in battle."
