Harrison Taber was born 18 Jul 1840 in Urbana, Champaign Co. OH. He was the 3rd son of John Clay and Rebecca (DOOLITTLE) TABER. On 17 Apr 1861, he enlisted in "D Co. 13th Infantry Regiment OH". After 3 months, he then enlisted in "H Co. 26th Ohio Regiment", discharged 22 Oct 1865. While in military service, he contracted small pox and asthma, for which he received a military pension. His family moved to Terre Haute, Vigo Co., IN in about 1865. Harrison and his two brothers, Uriah C and George W., operated "Taber Brothers", a horse collar and harness factory in Terre Haute, 1866-1874. When their father died, Harrison and his brothers sold out the business. He married Alice A GRAHAM 13 Oct 1870, and had a daughter, Jessica, 17 Mar 1872 in Terre Haute, Indiana. The family then moved to Madison Co., AL and had 2 more children, John Charles and Florence May, before moving to Nashville, TN, where he was again employed in the horse collar manufacturing business.
