Death Summons Civil War Veteran

Herkimer, New York

Franklin E. Beckwith passed away Saturday morning at the home of his son, Lewis C. Beckwith 233 Third Ave of this villiage. For nearly four years he had been in ill health, having been confind to his bed, and a week ago last Thursday he was taken worse and gradually weaknened to the end. The deceased was born in Rockland, Chenango County, New York on August 18, 1862 and ----------------(unreadable) the breaking out of the Civil war and was a Corporal with Company C 133th Regiment, New York State Volunteers. His father was Evans H. Beckwith and his mother Mary Myers. His wife was Almira P. Scott of North Norwich and their wedding was at Guilford. For four years he resided in this village with his son. He was a member of the E. B. Smith Post No ?? G.A.R. of Norwich and was a man held in high regard by all who knew him. Besides the son with whom he resided there survives a daughter Mrs. Jennie T. Hill of Jacksonville, Fla., six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
