**An article in The Pantagraph Newspaper, Bloomington, IL prints a letter to the Editor as follows: **Fort Donelson, Feb. 23d, 1862. Ed. Pantagraph: I am desirous that the following incidents in the battle before Fort Donelson (TN) on the 15th inst. should be made known through your columns:

A BIBLE SAVED HIS LIFE. --Incidents of this character have been often related; but none has ever come within my immediate notice until the one I am about to record. Mr. Oliver P. Congleton, formerly of Lexington, Ill., a private in Capt. Harvey's company, 8th regiment, had a large pocket Bible in the breast pocket of his uniform coat, in the battle before Fort Donelson. During the fight he was struck by a musket ball which went through his Bible and lodged in his coat pocket. Had it not been for this the ball would have penetrated his heart and death ensued immediately. He prizes his Bible very highly, much to the admiration of his comrades, who are about to conclude that the Bible is a safeguard as well as a passport anywhere.
