REVOLUTIONARY WAR

1775-1782

JOHN DICK

Rank: Private

Enlisted: January 1775

Company: Sumpter's Regiment

Commanded By: Captain Brown and Colonel Sumpter

Fought the British in: Battle of Fort Moultrie in Charleston, South Carolina. Wounded there. Got a ball in his hip. Surgeon removed it and he recovered.

John Dick was a SCOUT, out after the British, the Tories or the Indians, in the MILITIA.

Recalled: 1779 - to Sumpter's Regiment - Captain Bell

Recalled: 1780 - Same Regiment and Captain

Recalled: 1781 - Sumpter's Regiment for 4 months

Appointed: Made Sergeant - Horseman Regiment

Marched to Orangeburg, Georgia - John was taken prisoner there and in jail for 4 weeks in the British Prison. Was exchanged after 4 weeks. The British took his horse, guns and all War Equipage.

Returned to Scounting - 1782

Was at the Storming of Columbia.

Also at St. Augustine, Florida and Savannah, Georgia.

Fought: Battle of Eauta Springs and the Battle of Gilford Courthouse

John Dick died: 19 November 1832 in Pulaski County, Kentucky
