Captain Curtis, I enclose another medical certificate in case of Lyman C. Rowley - His eyes are still in a very bad condition rendering him unfit for duty of any kind. The sight of one eye is entirely gone, and there is reason to apprehend that the other one eventually share the same fate. I urge the further extension of his furlough on grounds that, in my opinion, his return to the South at the present time would greatly diminish his chances for saving the right eye. I am your obedient, C. N. Pierce
