Walter M. Myers was part of the 169th National Guard unit called up by the Ohio governor in May 1864 to Washington, DC for 100 days. He was assigned to Fort Ethan Allen and was to be discharged in September 1864. He died on 30 July 1864 at Fort Ethan Allen of typhoid.
His youngest brother, Grant, was born in 1865. Grant, who married Effie Corman, would name his first son Walter.
